The Thirty Years War ended in 1648 with the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia, under which three new churches were to be built for the Silesian Evangelical believers. They were called churches of peace - two of these buildings survived to this day; they are located in Jawor and in Świdnica. Świdnica Church was built in 1666-1669. It can accommodate about 7,500 people. The interior is decorated in Baroque style. In 1708, a bell tower was built next to the Church. Both churches are among the most important monuments in Silesia.
Church of Peace is a place where music plays almost all year round. One does not need to go to Germany or France to listen to the best performers of classical music. For several years now during the summer months, music lovers have had the opportunity to listen to concerts at the International Bach Festival.
