The museum is housed in 11 tenements, re-built after being destroyed in World War II: they are all in the Old Town, eight on the Old Town Square (Rynek Starego Miasta) and the last three on Nowomiejska Street. It also includes three historic courtyards. The collection includes archaeological exhibits, paintings, graphics, iconography, sculpture, decorative arts, numismatics, plans and drawings. Some of them, appearing in the permanent exhibition 'Seven Centuries of Warsaw', show the history of the city since its founding to modern times. The museum cinema screens a video documentary about Warsaw between 1939-1945, from Tuesday to Saturday at 12:00 (it is shown in English, but also available upon request are Polish, Spanish, French and German versions).
