The Burg (castle) situated in an easy to defend place (river Warta and Notec) has played an important role in the organisation of the Polish state in 10th century. The chronicler Gal Anominm mentioned it as - Key and Guardplace to Polish Kingdom.
The Museum of the Burg in Santok was opened on June 24th, 1978. It consists of two parts. The exposition of archaeological tools is in the building close to the old crossing on Warta river (former commercial route from Poznan to Szczecin and to Wolin island).
Nowadays a ferry crossing waits there. On the other bank of Warta there is a former Burg (castle) archaeological reservate. The Burg was round with diameter of 200 metres and surrounded by the wall made of soil and wood. The moat had the water from two rivers (Warta and Noteć).
