The museum was opened in 1990. It is located in a renovated pre-war villa "Polonia", a wooden building with stylish architectural and sculptural elements of the facade and wooden stairs inside along with cast iron details.
The museum shares the building with the Art Gallery "Zielona". The museum gathered 3831 exhibits of art, archaeology, ethnography, history, military traditions, and numismatics. It has the following permanent exhibitions: "History of Busko, the Spa and Busko Region", "Busko and Busko region in painting, graphics and sculpture", "Martyrdom of Busko", "People of Busko and Busko region - prisoners of concentration camps and Soviet gulags", exhibition of memorabilia of Krystyna Jamroz - a famous opera singer, and others distinguished for Busko and national culture and an exhibition of archaeological findings from the area of the town and municipality of Busko and surrounding areas. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions.
