Museum of Rural Architecture in Opole was established in 1961. Its goal is to protect and to popularize folk culture of Opolszczyzna (Lands of Opole).
Monuments of the museum, gathered outdoors, create a representative illustration of living conditions of country folk living on lands by the river Odra, from XVIIIth century to the beginning of XXth century. Main part of the museum collection is a group of 47 reconstructed buildings of folk architecture transferred into the museum. There is the largest number of living houses and farm buildings (barns and granaries) but there are also monuments representing folk techniques (such as: mill, windmills, forge) and public places (as school, inn, church).
