Museum of the Mazovian Countryside in Sierpc collects and preserve memorabilia of folk culture. It impresses not only with beautiful farmhouses and cottages interiors, but also varied terrain.
It is located in the ravine of the Sierpiennica River and covers an area of more than 60ha. At this area there are nine peasant farms from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, and a few individual objects such as: a windmill, mill, forge, shrines and roadside crosses.
Farms are not like museum exhibitions, but true inhabited houses. Near the buildings there are fruit orchards, vegetable gardens, flower gardens and farmland. You can also see goats, sheep, chickens, cows and pigs. All this makes Sierpiec the place in which you can really feel the atmosphere of nineteenth-century village. It was used by the filmmakers, shooting in the museum some of the scenes to “Fire and sword”, and the “Sir Thaddeus”.
The most interesting are Sundays, when the museum turns into a veritable bustling with life village.
