The history of the Kalisz Museum goes back to the end of the nineteenth century.
It is one of the oldest museum institutions in Poland. In 1900 at the reception halls of the Kalisz Town Hall the “Exhibition of Archeological and Historical Art Collections” was opened. Some exhibits were included to the museum collections. Today the exhibition consists of two displays: “From the primeval history of Kalisz and the region” (archeological exhibition) and “The History of Kalisz.” (historical exhibition). Apart from this, the museum has three departaments: Tadeusz Kulisiewicz Center of Drawing and Graphics, Maria Dąbrowska Literary Departament in Russów, Museum of Palace Interiors in Lewków. An archeological reserve in Zawodzie and an ethnographic heritage park in Russów are museum exhibitions in the region.
