The museum was established in 1967 as a Regional Museum owned by Polish Tourist Agency (PTTK) and in 1981 as state ownership. It acts in a very interesting culture area - border land situated in the middle part of Europe. This is the place where from time immemorial have coexisted different ethnic groups belonging to traditions of the West and the East Europe (mainly Polish, the Ukrainian, Jewish and German). The collection consists of over 6000 exhibits placed in four divisions: archeological, historic, ethnographical and artistic. They are displayed in three permanent exhibitions: ”History of town and region”, “Material culture of Lubaczów's countryside” and “The art of the borderland”. The museum is located in the old time granary.
