The Regional Museum in Wągrowiec is located in a historic building from the late eighteenth century, in so-called Opatówka, the former headquarters of the Cistercian abbot of Wągrowiec.
This building, after the appeal of the abbey was left in the private hands of owners. The city government bought it in the early eighties of the twentieth century, and in 1982 - 1987 the complete renovation was carried out. During the works, the architecture of the building and the former layout of the rooms were practically unchanged. The interior of the museum is intimate and has a unique atmosphere.
The building of the museum is located in the oldest part of Wągrowiec, near the historic Church buildings: Parish Church from the second half of the sixteenth century, Baroque Church and monastery of Cistercian, late-classical, post-evangelic Church and historic school buildings from the late nineteenth century.
