Roztocze is a borderland region between Poland and Ukraine, on the border of the European Union. It is a narrow strip of hills, ranging from 12 to 35 km in width and stretching from Kraśnik to Lvov over 185 km, of which 110 km is on the Polish side. This is a region of scenic beauty, and its abundant nature and culture are equally fascinating.
The Central Cycling Route of Roztocze (1st stage from Kraśnik to Zwierzyniec) crosses Western Roztocze, extending from Kraśnik to Szczebrzeszyn and Zwierzyniec. This area is covered with a thick layer of loess lying on a limestone bedrock. There are numerous, long ravines, even 20 m deep, whose slopes are covered with dry-ground forests. The most stunning and picturesque networks of ravines can be seen between Batorz and Turobin and in the "Piekiełko" area between Szczebrzeszyn and Kawęczynek.
