The underground trail that runs beneath the Old Town is a complex of 16th and 17th century cellars that lead from the dungeons of the Court of the Crown under the Market Square, Zlota Str. and Archidiakonska Str. up to Plac Po Farze.
FEATURES, ORIGINS, VALUES AND LEGAL PROTECTION
The trail passes through 14 chambers of different size ranging from 12m² to 50m². The route was created by the merger of a number of the Old Town cellars, which in the past were used by traders for storage. Throughout the halls along the entire length of the route there are models depicting the most important periods of the development of Lublin, from tribal times, via the 14th century when it was walled city till about 1670. The entire route is a kind of journey through the most important event of the city. We want to show the greatest moments of glory and splendour of the city, the famous Lublin fairs or the conclusion of the Union of Lublin, as well as the tragic events in its history, including fires, epidemics and invasions. A walk through dungeons introduces visitors to nearly 1,000 years of history of Lublin. The models make it easier to understand the logic of the creation and development of the city. The tourist was opened to the public in 2006.
